IHHA Conference in Narvik

The International Heavy Haul conference (IHHA) 2019 was held in Narvik June 10th – 14th. The conference was arranged by the International Heavy Haul Association, in partnership with Bane NOR, Norway, Trafikverket, Sweden, and UIT The Arctic University of Norway, Narvik, Norway.

Delegates from all over the world attend the conference in Narvik. Among them, several ARINKA partner delegates. In connection with the conference it was also held two ARINKA project meetings during the week.

Central for the discussions under this IHHA conference have been the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on railway personnel. The conference focused on research and innovations, best practices in areas of operations, maintenance, construction, new material, new design and re-design of existing systems.

The conference included presentations of technical papers on research and development within areas such as Rolling Stock, Railway Infrastructure and Operations. Two days prior to the conference, international railway experts had Workshops where they discussed selected topics on the Infrastructure and Rolling Stock issues.

The day after the conference closing, some of the delegates attended a Technical Tour involving site visits to LKAB’s shipping facility in Narvik and Bane NOR’s Heavy Haul line between Narvik and the Swedish border.
